With shortcuts we become our own beautiful reconstruction instead of the God-given beauty that we were born with. Life is a process and so is the beauty of life.

#2 Become best friends with the idea of discipline.
The highest paid athletes are the ones who put blood, sweat, and tears into their repetitions. They practice. Practice some more and practice some more. The greatest musicians eat, sleep, and practice what they love. These are not special people that have special traits of discipline. These are people that decide to be the best by finding what works for them and then doing it over and over until it becomes them. Without the practice of discipline a beautiful and healthy body is unlikely. Without the disciplines of daily upkeep and maintenance of our bodies and our minds, we never achieve that place that we dream of. The results we seek showcase themselves after consistent application. Beautiful skin, hair, bodies, and attitudes are merely the results of continuous care and action.

#3 Be patient as you find what works for you.
Some people meditate and pray early in the morning and some late at night. #5 Learn to give yourself a break!
First, how can any woman be beautiful when she's stressed out all the time? People not only see beauty but they hear it in your speech and in your walk. They see it in your interaction with others. It's not just how you look but so much more than that. So, give yourself a break and just be. Keep applying the principles and keep embarking upon your purpose in life. The combination of both will reflect your inner beauty which will catapult your motivation to maintain your outer beauty. They all work together. What woman is more beautiful than the one who has a wonderful balance of her total being's togetherness? Each puzzle piece is needed to complete the beautiful picture.

Short Sleeves Insights - Is Beauty Really Only Skin Deep?

"Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to see it." The words of Rumi bring up a good question. Is beauty something we just see or is beauty something that we feel? My thoughts about what beauty really is have changed over the last few years.

I was always looking for beauty, some outward mark of excellence, that I could identify with and copy in some way. Certainly physical beauty is the first trait we all seem to want, whether it be looks or brains or both. Physical beauty is the quest of the ages. I searched for beauty in the people and places that surrounded me. I wanted to be associated with beauty. In that way, I felt some of it would rub off on me. I didn't feel I was beautiful.

It seemed my concept of beauty changed as I changed, so that things that attracted me at one point, were no longer the beauty I was seeking. I found that my experience of beauty changed as my thoughts about beauty changed. It was not a constant. Its shape, size, function and appeal changed with my thoughts. What is the definition of beauty anyway?

As Rumi pointed out beauty surrounds us, in fact, it is us. I didn't feel I was beautiful, but I was searching in the wrong places to find the feeling. I wanted others to verify my beauty and when they didn't, I accepted my lack of beauty. Believing that this power existed outside of me, that's where I Looked. I found everyone looking for the same thing. The thing we all have, but have hidden in our illusion of duality. I could see it in the garden or a mountain or the sea, but it didn't seem to be part of me.

Now understanding that my thoughts create my reality, my world, I can feel beauty everywhere, including within myself. I accept the fact I was created by beauty, so I am what my creator is. My thoughts feel beauty in my words, actions and accomplishments. I feel beauty in nature, in friends, in events, because that is what I think. It is my prayer. I see beauty in the contrast I face in life, for that is what I focus on. The beauty of growth from a situation that shows and express pain, brings understanding to all the contrasts I encounter.

Beauty is feeling, just as prayer is feeling. If I know it is already present in everything, it's easy to experience, to express and become the thing I desire.

My desire for beauty is relentless, just as my desire for love is unending. I want to know myself for who I am, so I can grow into a grander version of beauty and love.

Who Is The Beauty Tyrant

I'm the Beauty Tyrant, of course, a beauty buff in her late 20s.

How it all started?I became a beauty buff ever since I got my index finger nicked by my mom's eye brow razor when I lovingly stroked it, thinking it was a soft eye brow brush. I was a very little girl then. I had seen her use the eye brow brush a million times and I swear I knew it was a brush instead of a razor. Innocence of a child, no? Back then, Mom had a treasure trove of pretty colors and makeup that I will secretly rummage and experiment, often with hilarious results.

So what's different here? I'm basically a huge cheerleader for natural beauty except for my addiction for lipstick and lip gloss. Therefore, I'm always on a lookout for new skin care products and new tips and ways to enhance natural beauty and not too much weight on makeup-induced beauty. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prud. I do use makeup too, but I try best to keep it at a minimum, simply just to cover up some flaws and to enhance better features. Minimalism is beauty, that's my mantra on beauty.

I chose to start Beauty Tyrant because as a woman, I have my insecurities about my looks and my body. Trust me, my insecurities are too many to list down. It can be very trying at times and frustrating, having the desire to be on par with the perception of beauty but at the same time don't really have a clue where or how to start on the quest for beauty. I understand that there are also many women out there who may face the same trials and tribulations as myself in a world where beauty takes centre stage. Hey, even the most beautiful woman has her insecurities one way or another. Here, I hope to offer some very honest opinions and tips that I myself practice which I really think are useful and beneficial.

Beauty has always held a supreme position in our world. Beauty is one of the great creations of the God which force us to get attracted towards it. During the journey of our life, we came across many beautiful faces. However there are some few faces among all these which are able to create strange attentions for them. Mostly these faces are of women because around the world women are associated with beauty more than men. A beautiful face could be one which we say love at first sight. Love at first sight is nothing but an untimely strong attraction towards a particular beautiful face in the first instance.

Exceptional beauties in this world are beyond the thinking and imaginary power of the human being. Second important thing is that beauty is a natural phenomenon and it is natural for any person to get attracted towards a beautiful object. Mostly we all share the same perception for the beauty and due to this a beautiful person is beautiful to all. A beautiful face is a distinguished asset for the person but still may be a big curse at the same time. A beautiful face is a great asset as it allows the person holding beauty to attract many people towards itself like a strong magnet pulls many small iron pieces towards itself. More strong the beauty, more attractions it will have. Mostly these people are given a lot of importance and privilege in the society.

However simultaneously this beauty also have some of the major side effects associated with it. Due to this strong attraction, this beauty attracts many unwanted people or circumstances which have the power of completely changing the life of person who holds beauty. Second due to the lot of rush and hassle, the beautiful person may lose his personal space. Third beauty can start overshadowing the intellectual and forcing person to take decisions as per his or her beauty. These are some of the good and negative aspects of having a beautiful face. However it depends upon the person who holds beauty to adopt the paths of his life and allowing how much interference in life.

Third, beautiful person always needs to remember that beauty is only for few years. Once it achieves its peak level then the slow decrease in the attractiveness starts taking place with the rising age. Like a flower, which grow and blossom to fullness and then got washed in to the harshness of world? Forth, a human mind always strives for new faces; therefore a beautiful face might lose his appeal for the same set of people after some time. Fifth, time without beauty like upper middle age and old age could be very difficult for the person as many people who attached with him or her due to beauty may live him or her.

Most of us are very plain, not like the made-up actors we see in the movies, the beauty queens that move in contest parades, or the air-brushed models we view in the ads. Understanding Beauty

Beauty is a phenomenal concept which is as old as mankind. Yet, it is a concept which is very misunderstood. Different individuals listen to such diverse views of what beauty entails that quite a number end up confused, frustrated and frankly give up. If someone were to walk right up to you and asked you to define beauty; what would you say? Would you start describing a cover model you saw in one of the popular magazines, or colors of the rainbow? Or would you consider a soft melodious piece of music or even a romantic verse from a lover? All these can be defined within the concept of beauty but one thing that is clear, there is no definite definition of beauty. Beauty is something abstract and intangible. It is something about something. This something about something will vary from individual to individual. A popular definition of beauty is that it is a characteristic about something that gives a feeling of pleasure and satisfaction. Therefore for beauty to be perceived, it must stimulate the senses to evoke a feeling of joy, pleasure and satisfaction. From this definition, the judge of what's beautiful is the person who receives or fails to receive the pleasure.

How is this sensuous beauty applicable among human beings? What makes one be considered beautiful and attractive? Is a person considered beautiful necessarily attractive? These are complex questions which do not have a direct answer. The way the societies we live in view beauty is influenced by many factors. First of all there are cultural factors. In the past, each culture had distinct criteria upon which they based beauty. There are those cultures that considered plump women to be beautiful. Therefore fattening of maidens before marriage was a common practice. Others considered small feet to be beautiful. These have however changed a lot in modern times. With the advancement of technology and human interaction, the differences in cultural preferences have been minimized and we now almost have a standard way of viewing beauty. This is greatly influenced by the parameters set by top fashion houses. The images they project to the public, form the dress, walking style and physique have increasingly become the trend that the reminder of the World is expected to follow. But is what we see on the Catwalk the true representation of beauty? Thankfully, no. Human beauty is so rich in variety that we can have no set parameters within which to define it. One cannot authoritatively say small is beautiful, blonde is beautiful, slim is beautiful, green eyes are beautiful etc. and condemn other characteristics. There is no standard of beauty and each individual is beautiful in her own way. There may only be prejudices as a result of the society around the individual. It for this reason you would find a man married to a blonde having an affair with a brunette, or a lady of oriental or African descent. They are simply beautiful and the man cannot resist!

So, if we are all beautiful, what then is the big deal? Is there any reason to bother or care about how we look? Yes there is! You must certainly take the keenest interest in how you look. We live in a complex and highly socialized world. The image of beauty has become highly commercialized. Non conformity is risking rejection. Studies have shown that what is considered beautiful has a halo effect. A beautiful and attractive person will receive more attention, score higher marks in class, get more assistance, get a better job, be paid more and be trusted more. Coincidentally, people who are considered beautiful are better adjusted, confident and appear more intelligent. Therefore beauty plays a key role in our lives in how we relate with others and in how we choose our mates. It is therefore a responsible thing for us to ensure that we are beautiful. How do we do this? Since we have established that beauty is about evoking feelings of pleasure and satisfaction in other people, we must therefore aim at ensuring that people are pleased with what they see when they look at us. We all have strengths and weaknesses. We must strive to strengthen our strengths and mask our weaknesses. The aim is not to be the most beautiful person around. That is futile in that there is no such most beautiful person. The aim is to ensure we are presentable and acceptable in the society we live in. This will enhance our self confidence and of course our health. In Beauty and Health for Happiness, we will discuss tips on how to enhance our beauty and health. But first we must observe the following fundamental beauty tips.

o Accept yourself the way you are and know that you are beautiful in your own unique way. This is the first step in enhancing your beauty and health, making it shine to all around you.

o Develop healthy habits. Beauty and health are inseparable. Among the many characteristics contributing to overall beauty is health and youthfulness. You must have a healthy body, healthy skin, eyes, good breath, and healthy teeth etc. It is therefore imperative that you have a well balanced diet, exercise regularly and consult your doctor whenever necessary.

Beauty Reboot

After years of working from the outside/in I currently believe that "true beauty starts from within" and my purpose in life is assisting women with developing their own internal beauty awareness. When you tap into the inner core essence of you, your true beauty will emerge effortlessly.

The next time you sit down at the vanity take a moment and turn within. Life is meant to be lived from the inside/out & know that whatever you see on the outside mirrors what's going on inside. I'm sure when I say Beauty Reboot™ you might think I'm going to ask you to restyle your hair, freshen up your makeup & add some pizzazz to your wardrobe. Not that those things aren't important but I'd like you to really delve into what beauty truly means. You see...beauty applies to all areas of one's life. Beauty is not just about cosmetics, what you see when you look in the mirror or how another person defines your physical make. Beauty encompasses all areas of our lives. To think of beauty exclusively from a vanity prospective is an injustice. Beauty is involved in your daily tasks & is everywhere in the world around you. You must open your eyes & open your mind to experience it all.

If you make a conscious decision to stay there you will never be who you were meant to be which in my opinion is drop dead ugly. Why not make a conscious effort to bring the beauty back in your life. Making Yourself Beautiful in Your Own Way

Beauty is an impression that does not only pertain to humanity but also other things that the Almighty created yet oftentimes misunderstood. The views of different people vary regarding beauty and most of the time it ends in confusion and frustrations. As an individual, how would you define beauty in your own perception? In the past, the culture implies beauty as being plump therefore it was the common practice of many women to gain weight before getting married. However, these beliefs have changed in the modern times through the advancement of technology. Because of human interaction, the cultural preference in defining beauty changed. A standard way of defining beauty was set and influenced by fashion through the images they project, the way they walk as well as the physical aspects that includes the way people dress up. This set of standard became the trend that almost all people in the world expected to abide. However, this should not be the case because no one can set a parameter in defining beauty and because setting such parameter would only result to prejudices.

Therefore, instead of setting criteria we should rather think that we are all beautiful as God created no one ugly. However, it is also our responsibility to preserve and maintain the beauty we have. We should care about how we look because apparently beauty plays a big role in our lives. According to studies, beauty becomes highly commercialized in this modern time. Maybe you wonder why beautiful people receive more attention and assistance, gets higher marks and better job as well as trusted and paid more. However, you should not aim to be the most beautiful person instead you need to develop your strength. In doing so, your self-confidence will be enhanced in such a way that you become acceptable and presentable in the society you are living in. To achieve and improve your beauty as well as your health in general, you should follow the basic rules.

• Accept what you are and believe that you are beautiful. This is one way of improving your beauty and health in your own way.

• Develop healthy practices because beauty and health goes along with each other. To achieve overall beauty you should promote your health and look young. You can have youthfulness if you have a healthy body including your skin and everything that contributes in being beautiful. You can attain healthy body through eating balanced diet and regular exercise.

• Use skin care products that will farther boost your strength and reduce the marks of weaknesses.

Recent History

Greek and Roman artists have provided the basis and also set the standard by which male beauty in western civilization can be measured.

Accordingly, the ideal Roman male was defined as tall, muscular, long-legged, with a full head of thick hair, a high and wide forehead - a sign of intelligence - wide-set eyes, a strong brow-line, a strong perfect nose and profile, a smaller mouth, and a strong jaw line.

A combination of these characteristics would give rise to an impressive and commanding look depicting an aura of handsome masculinity.

The desirability of a beauty ideal may be a harbinger for racial oppression. Accordingly, there is a well established notion in American society that black features are less attractive or desirable than white features. The perception that all that was black was inherently ugly was highly damaging to the psyche of African Americans, manifesting itself as internalised racism, in which members of marginalised groups hold an oppressive view toward their own group, or start to believe in negative stereotypes of themselves.

It was for this reason that the "black is beautiful" cultural movement set out to dispute this idea. On the other hand, beauty ideals may also act as a trigger in order to promote racial unity, rather than disharmony.

Mixed race children, therefore, are sometimes perceived to be more attractive than their parents. In this respect, it has been suggested that their diverse genetic background may actually help them in the future.

Human Beauty

The determination that a person is "beautiful", whether it relates to an individual or in a collective sense, is often based on the aspiration of inner beauty. Such an entity is associated with certain psychological factors. These may include such diverse attributes as personality, intelligence, grace, charm and elegance.

Another aspirational prerequisite is that of outer beauty. This is represented as a manifestation of such physical factors as health, youthfulness, symmetry, averageness, and complexion.

A popular way to gauge the extent of outer beauty is by means of a beauty competition, such as the Miss Universe. The level of audience appreciation may be regarded as a measure of their definition of such beauty.

Conversely, inner beauty is more difficult to quantify, even though beauty competitions often claim to take this into consideration as well during the final judging.

A useful measure of physical beauty is to be found in the concept of averageness. It has been found that when pictures or photographs of human faces are assembled together to form a composite image, such an image moves progressively closer to the ideal image, and as such is perceived as being more attractive.

Such an outcome was initially recorded in 1883, when the cousin of Charles Darwin was using photographs to study the faces of vegetarians and criminals in order to determine if each group of individuals could be associated with specific facial characteristics. His work concluded that that the combined images were more attractive than those of any of the individual images.

Latter day researchers have replicated these experiments under more controlled conditions and have found that the computer generated, mathematical average of a series of faces scored higher than that of the individual faces.

There is abundance, joy, passion, sensuality and pleasure to be had in your beautiful life, and working with your personal power of beauty is a strategy for claiming even more. Your personal power of beauty is a treasure to behold, a way to be bold and a powerful journey for you to unfold. Beneath the surface of your skin is the story of your beauty, and this is the story that is meant to be told.

The personal power of beauty is a magical tool that enhances all aspects of your existence to a more majestic and magnificent experience. Beauty is the source of your personal magic; it is the essence of who you are, it connects you to others and to the plenty of this planet.

What is beauty? Where does it come from? Who has it?
When you think of beauty is it something you know you have within you? Or does beauty seem like something elusive and outside of you?

All people are beautiful, and it is our essential nature to radiate this beautiful truth.

The Beauty is on the Inside

Years ago, I saw an ad that I loved for Burt's Bee's products. The photo was of a group of Harley-type bikers, you know, heavy set men, grimacing, hairy and looking kind of scary. The caption on the ad said "The Beauty is on the Inside". It couldn't be clearer, beneath the packaging is where you will find true Beauty, it's on the Inside. This ad cracked me up, just thinking about it still makes me smile; the message was so clear, powerful and beautifully stated. Beauty comes from within, it emanates through the skin and vibrates around us.

Each of us has our own personal beauty, it is the unique essence of who we are, like our signature or thumb print, it is exclusively our own. Our personal beauty or inner beauty stems from the heart, our center of love. Our center of love is the vital force of our spirit, and the vital force of our spirits spring from the source of all life: Whether it be God, Goddess, Great Spirit, Energy, Vibration, the Creator, Nature, the Divine or the Force it is all the same source. Whatever you believe to be the divine spark of life within you; whatever you equate to the magic of your existence; however you understand life with its complexities and perfections and which ever way you account for the air that is your breath and the fire of your spirit all stems from the source of life, and the beauty within you is a part of the package. Our beauty is a divine light that sparks through each cell of our being. You truly can never be anything but beautiful, for you are life and life itself is beauty.

When you understand the source of beauty within you, you then have access to its potential for your greater abundance, power and ability to manifest change. The power of your beauty is already embedded in your essence, ready to glow. However, it is harnessed through your beliefs about yourself and the actions you take in the name of truth, beauty and love. You are born with the tools to become a channel for this very compelling and influential vibration. You are the vehicle for this sacred source to shimmer and shine.

Beauty is Truth, Truth Beauty

We live in a world where our concepts of beauty are decided by the collective consciousness, the standards of our society. Many of us, especially women, are victims of what is known as the 'beauty myth'. A world where fashion rules, perfect body types are most desired and our ways of looking and being are all meant to sell or consume products: beauty products, fragrances, diet pills, hair color, fashion magazines, douches etc. But that is not what true beauty is made of. The truth is we are already whole and complete beings, we are all perfect because we are each perfectly ourselves. What is true is that beauty is everywhere and within everything. For everything on earth and in the universe is of the divine source. Unfortunately, many of us were not taught to honor our own beauty in this way. We were warned against being too conceited or told we were not beautiful enough and sadly so many beautiful people have never had their own precious nature reflected back to them. We hide our beauty in the shadows, even the super models complain about places within themselves that they find hideous. In subtle and not so subtle ways we have been disempowered and misdirected by the media to seeing ourselves as less than the ideal of beauty. Every commercial on television is an assault, telling us what we need to do to be better, happier and more beautiful. This is the beauty myth and it can destroy our sense of self-esteem and even destroy the joy in our lives, it already has for so many people.

As adults, we need to re-teach ourselves where true beauty comes from. We need to re-connect to the radiant source of life within us and teach this to our children. True beauty comes from the heart and soul and spirit of who you truly are, it is your divine right to resonate with self-love and allow your beauty to take the stage. Your authenticity is buzzing with beauty. Life is love, love is truth and truth is beauty. All of life is sacred and all of life is beautiful. Beauty and truth are hand in hand, one does not exist without the other.

What Does Really Beauty Means?

Often, when we talk about beauty, our brain cells unconditionally tend to imagine and portray a picture of young Women. This is a very common and natural thought process. However, this is really untrue. Beauty is deep and beyond gender! Beauty means not only the outer surface appearance of someone, but also who they are inside and how they portray themselves on a day-to-day basis. Beauty comes from Inside-out rather from outside-in.

To me beauty means standing for your unique qualities and being yourselves. Beauty is the reflection of joy within oneself. Beauty is probably an intangible feeling and pleasure we receive when we look at and admire, endless green mountains, spending quality time with someone special, extending help to others, doing what we like to do and much more.

When I think of Beauty, I think of my Parent and Grandparent. The unconditional love, warm protection, and endless care they shower are beyond explanation! Another example: Mother Teresa - who for over 45 years ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, first throughout India and then in other countries.

Having said this, the below poem is an attempt to uncover what beauty really means:

I read somewhere this famous quote- "the most beautiful things in Life cannot be touched, but can only be felt and embraced." So true as it read. Beauty is not something which is physical. It is beyond our surface boarders. It is the image that we carry by spiritually touching the inner-self, illuminating the happiness inside and radiating the true beauty to our outside world! Beauty is like an everyday experience which we receive, feel and embrace within ourselves.

Let us be beautiful to make this world a better place to live, share, enjoy and create happiness each seconds we consume.

Real True Beauty

Every day young girls and women are bombarded with unrealistic media representations of women. Advertisements, Miss America contests, television shows, and movies are all responsible for the low self esteem that many women are facing today. In media, 'beautiful' women are depicted as being thin, perfect skinned, and big breasted. The reality is, many women are not thin, do not have perfect skin, and are not big breasted. Since they do not fit these 'ideal' images of beauty, many women believe that they are not beautiful and do not appeal to men. This article will dispose of these media beliefs about beauty by discussing what beauty really is, how ideas of beauty differ around the world, and what men really think about beauty.

As many people know, there are two types of beauty; outer beauty and inner beauty. Outer beauty, or physical attractiveness, is the type of beauty that is focused on most by the media. Unfortunately, media takes most physical attributes to the extreme. 'Beautiful' women in the media have perfect skin, perfect bodies, and the perfect weight, leaving women in the real world feeling insecure and undesirable. Unfortunately, media cannot be ignored. It is everywhere. It is on television, on the radio, in the movies, in ads, and even in children's toys. This is why it is extremely important that we begin to emphasis the importance of inner beauty to young girls and women. Inner beauty, often ignored in media representations, includes psychological factors such as personality, intelligence, politeness, and personal charisma. Rather than focusing on unobtainable physical characteristics, young women should be focusing on attainable inner beauty.

Easier said than done, right? In today's society, the pressure of a woman to be beautiful is stronger than ever. Unfortunately, most women are not focusing on inner beauty as they should be. So, for those women, here are two suggestions. The first is to ignore media representations. There are very few women in the world who actually fit the profile of a woman in the media. Even the women who have made it to television are often edited and airbrushed to look the way they do. The second point to establish is that ideas of beauty are forever changing. Beauty changes from time to time and from place to place. What is beautiful to one person is not beautiful to another. For example, in Western cultures, extra long necks may not be considered a beautiful trait. However, the Kayan tribe of Thailand believes that elongated necks represent ideal beauty. They are so infatuated with the idea of long necks that the women actually wear brass rings around their neck to help give them an elongated appearance. This shows how different cultures have different ideas of beauty. The same is true for different people within the same cultures. What is beautiful to one American man may not be beautiful to another.

Similarly, most men in Western cultures have a different idea of beauty than women. When you ask a woman what would make her more beautiful, she will often describe physical characteristics such as better skin, better hair, or bigger breasts. Men, on the other hand, often won't mention physical characteristics when asked what beauty is. Research has shown that men believe happiness and healthiness make a woman beautiful, not physical characteristics.

Regardless of time and place, standards of beauty are always there. Unfortunately, media representations are giving young women unattainable beauty ideals which are damaging the self esteem of young girls and women. Instead of trying to live up to these unrealistic ideals, understand that beauty is not static. Everyone has a different idea of beauty. If one person doesn't find you beautiful, another will. Also, focus on your inner beauty. If you allow your inner beauty to shine you will be happier and healthier, allowing you to achieve your ultimate goal of attracting the perfect man!

Natural Beauty - Is Beauty Really Only Skin Deep?

Natural beauty is unique. A rare quality that makes you stand out from the crowd. Everybody on this earth is unique in some way; if they weren't then the world would be a very boring place.

Natural beauty is not a photograph of an airbrushed model. Leading manufacturers would like you to believe it is in their efforts to sell you their products. Cosmetic firms and firms who sell beauty-enhancing products all use your sense of insecurity to convince you to buy from them.

Have you ever seen photographs of these same models on their 'bad days' when they would rather not be photographed? They are just ordinary people. You would walk past most of them in the street and not give them a second look. Put into the hands of talented make-up artists and then modified by sophisticated computer programs the result is something that is unreal and false.

You cannot buy natural beauty, because it's already yours. These firms cannot sell you natural beauty, because you already have it.

Beauty comes naturally to those who want it and know how to get it.

Beauty is intangible; you cannot own it, sell it, hold it or even give it away.

If natural beauty really did conform to certain standards and criteria then all areas of outstanding natural beauty would look the same, wouldn't they? Is the Grand Canyon the same or even similar to the Swiss Alps?

Natural beauty is within the grasp of every individual. The first step is to accept yourself for who you are and gain the confidence to stand up and say 'I am who I am', it is having the strength to be an individual and to be unique. An original is always worth far more than any cheap copy.

Natural beauty comes from looking after yourself by eating the right foods so that your skin becomes smooth and soft to touch, not plastering yourself with make-up and presenting a false image to the world. The food you eat can add a sparkle to your eyes and a glow to your skin. You can uncover your natural beauty by doing simple toning exercises to improve your posture and add a spring to your step.

Something that is rare and special is worth a million times more than something that is false. By bringing out your individuality, you can make yourself into a rare and special person and that is what natural beauty is all about.

Natural beauty begins at the very core of your personality and radiates from you in everything you do and say. Natural beauty is about being true to yourself and believing in yourself and never about copying the looks of the models that look down on you from billboards.

These billboards are there to make you feel inadequate in some way so that you will feel compelled to buy whatever it is the manufacturer is selling, in the mistaken belief that you will look and feel better about yourself.

Beauty is never only skin-deep and never let anyone tell you different.

Female Beauty Secrets

Beauty is one of the most controversial topics of all times, especially female beauty. It has always been said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and yet there seems to be an ideal or a standard to beauty in the whole world. People always say that what is ideally beautiful is simply what has been fed to society by the media. If one will look at its meaning, beauty is said to be a characteristic. True enough. However, there will be question that perhaps no one can fully answer. What is beauty?

Beauty has been by far commercialized. Perhaps all people can accept that. In line with this thought, it may be said that beauty has become something that is cerebral, not spontaneous. Ideally, beauty is something that is to be appreciated once something beautiful is seen. The problem is that it is very apparent that every person's idea of beauty has been ingrained in the primeval memory. Even as a person grows up, he is brought up to have an idea of beauty based on what is appreciated by those people around him.

Accordingly, the perception of beauty has become generally accepted as subjective. However, there are scientists of today trying to prove that there must be formula to measure beauty objectively, this study was started thousands of years ago in the time of the great philosophers such as Socrates, Plato, and Pythagoras. It was the Pythagorean school of thought from which the golden ratio was first heard of.

The golden ratio is a mathematical formula focused on proportion and symmetry. Scientific researches as shown also in television suggests that people whose faces fit this golden ratio are often perceived to be beautiful as opposed to those who do not. There are also studies made that the perception of beauty starts from childhood as mentioned earlier. For women, it has been said that long legs are one factor to consider in terms of beauty. A flawless skin is also one.

Another scientific finding which relates to beauty is the concept of natural selection. People and animals will mate or breed to someone who looks strong and fit. This is to ensure that the species will survive. In line with this, it was found out that the "averageness" of a facial value is far more deemed as beautiful as opposed to those who are rare or unusual. A study was made in which the faces of many average people were merged into one composite and the result was that of a beautiful face. From this study it was concluded that the average looking person is far more conceived more beautiful than those who possess unusual characteristics.

In reality, beauty is only skin deep and what matters really to a lot of people is inner beauty such as behavior. These are the things that one will appreciate for a lifetime since physical beauty fades away as we all grow older. This is something that cannot be physically measured but can be observed such as grace, charm, intellect, warmth. Beauty cannot be dictated by anyone, not even social cultural norms.

Reflections From On Beauty by Zadie Smith

Tonight is the last of the night shift, yay! Over the week, I've managed to finish the Bill Bryson book and this one by Zadie Smith. It was a very enjoyable read.

I wondered why it was called "On Beauty". I thought about "beauty" from several angles.

Most superficially, beauty as in appearance and size. It was interesting how Smith mentioned each woman's size, the women's own view of beauty, as well as making some comments to what society call beauty. I thought it was intriguing how the African/ black women all had different view on size and beauty according to, if you like, how white they are on the inside. That is, the more ethnically connected, the less that woman was inclined to value being skinny, having big breasts and round bottom, as beautiful. Kiki, the main female character was obese yet constantly being described as being beautiful, even by other women. The beauties in the paintings referred to in the book would be judged as obese by today's society. Yet these paintings are the lifetime works of men, yet more men devote a life time to study. They are valued by today's society, in the millions. How conflicting and incongruous. What is the standard of beauty would society have us believe?

There is the idea of "beauty" being innocence. In the story, Levi was taken by the plight of the Haitians and poverty in general. Despite being a middle classed suburbana teenager, he found himself fighting, even, in the end, potentially sacrificing his future, for a people whom, superficially, have nothing in common with. It was purely recognising that those in poverty were made of the same essence as himself. That was sufficient "glue" to stick him to them. He has no other redeeming quality, yet, I thought his naivety beautiful. How many of us can give up so much, for something so distant.

Next I come to the beauty of strength. If I had written this book and called it On Beauty, it would be because of Kiki. Obese. Black. Menopausal. How does a woman, whose belly hangs over the elastics of leggings, that spreads beyond the handles of a seat, be beautiful? By being kind, generous, genuine. She is the mother - to her children, her husband and her friends. In putting the needs of others in front of her own, she is the "looker - after-er". Perhaps it is this reason she forgave her husband's infidelities. Yet a genuine entitlement to being herself led her to both sense and express the betrayal and disappointment she felt. Yes, "entitlement to be yourself". I really liked that expression. One needs to be taught that we are all entitled to be ourselves. It is a God given right. Otherwise He would not have made us the way we are. Because we are allowed to be ourselves, we are allowed to be possessive of the love of our lives, and feel hurt and jealousy. It is something I have yet to learn myself. I live in the shadow of what others deem beautiful. It is the root of my problem. Maybe that is why I know, at least on the intellectual level, that I am not beautiful.

The natural question then, would be, how does one feel beautiful? How does one find the entitlement of being oneself? From the book, I would suggest "belonging" - the sense of belonging that one is not alone, one is validated by others in that group. Perhaps it only reflects my own lack of belonging that I find the book raises this issue. In many ways, I think the characters in the book are all seeking their belonging, their identity. Clearly family is one place where one can feel accepted. After all, blood is thicker than water, so the saying goes. This unspeakable bond sometimes only emerges when the storm of life blows through. But what interested me was Levi's sense of comraderie in suffering in the book. It is perhaps through the lense of youth that the beauty of humanity comes into sharper focus.

It leads onto a less prominent idea of beauty - the beauty of justice. I suppose I shouldn't say exactly what happened because it's a bit of climax of the book. How do you fix poverty? If a poor man steals to feed his family, regardless, it is scorned by society. Voting for Hilary or Obama, would that fix it? One finds that answer through history, I would have thought. Perhaps social justice is as elusive as beauty, alluring yet unattainable. However, I do not, for one minute, advocate complacency. Much like my theory on suffering, I think perhaps the enigma of it, the unattainability of it, drives us to constantly strive for justice, for beauty. For, perhaps, beauty knows no bounds.
